The Historical Works of the Soviet Union,
Part Nine:
In 1964, in the Soviet Union, Leonid Brezhnev General Secretary of the communist party and Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin was Premier of the Soviet Union. Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin functioned, as second in charge. While Leonid Brezhnev functioned, as first in charge:
By 1965, communist North Vietnam and communist rebels in South Vietnam, were fighting capitalist South Vietnam, in the Vietnam war, to make Vietnam united and under communism. In 1965, America as part of the cold war, sent military forces to fight Vietnamese communist forces. So then the Soviet Union under Leonid Brezhnev and Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin, sent some degree of advisors, military supplies and money, to North Vietnam.
In 1968, communist nation and Soviet Union's vassal nation( a nation with another one having some control over it of Czechoslovakia, made it legal, for people to preach agianist communism and the Czechoslovakian government. So the Soviet Union under Leonid Brezhnev and Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin, sent Soviet army forces to invade and capture Czechoslovakia. The army of Czechoslovakia, would not fight back. However, some Czechoslovakian civilians would block Soviet forces, from capturing places. So Soviet forces, killed over 100 Czechoslovakian civilians. After the Soviet Union captured Czechoslovakia, it then made back into a nation, that made insulting communism and the Czechoslovakian government illegal. The Soviet newspapers and so forth, made it look like the Soviet Union invaded the nation, because Czechoslovakia had been preparing for war.
Due to the invasion, the communist nation of Albania, declared it would no longer a vasal nation, of the Soviet Union and in the Warsaw pact. The Warsaw pact was an alliance the Soviet Union and their vassal nations, were a part of.
Also in 1968, the Soviet Union under Leonid Brezhnev and Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin, sent more military supplies to North Vietnam.
In 1969, there was still a rivalry between Communist China and the Soviet Union. Communist China just like the Soviet Union had nuclear bombs. There was also a dispute over the island of Zenbao. A small group of Communist Chinese soldiers march on the Island. So then a small group of Communist Chinese soldiers, marched onto the island. Then the Chinese soldiers shot at and killed 20 of the Soviet soldiers. Then in retaliation. The Soviet Union under Leonid Brezhnev and Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin, used arterially on Communist China, killing 100s of Communist Chinese soldiers. This would not result in a invasion, or use of nuclear weapons between the 2 nations.
Also in 1969, in the cold war, the Soviet Union lost the space race, to America. By America, sending a human Astronaut, on the moon. The Soviet newspapers and so forth, minimised the moon landings attention.
By the 1970s, there was a larger amount of preachers, against the Soviet governments. Mainly preaching for free speech, from the Soviet governments. This was due, to wanting revenge, agianist the Soviet Unions government, for the invasion of Czechoslovakia, as well as being inspired by black people who protested, agianist their white supremacist governments, in America and South Africa.
Also by the 1970s, NATO members Britain and France, had lost all the African regions they controlled, in the form of colonies. With France also leaving NATO. This all made the anti-Soviet alliance organisation NATO, less powerful.
By the 1970s, there was television in the Soviet Union. Just like many things in the Soviet Union, television needed electricity. The Soviet Union got their electricity by a number of means, Which were:
1. Fossil fuels. As in electricity powered by coal, oil and natural gas
2. Nuclear power, With electricity being retrieved by nuclear( radio-active) methods. Such as with plutonium and Uranium, in nuclear power plants
3. Some were also renewable energy, such as from wind turbines and hydroelectric power(water turned to energy by dams).
While there is no statistical information out there on which amount of which type of electricity was used in the Soviet Union, by the 1970s. In 1990, it was roughly:
1. At least 11% of electricity, from nuclear power plants
2. At least 16%, from Hydroelectric power
3. At least 63%, from fossil fuels
Nuclear power plants, had the risk of blowing up. Which would do death and destruction, in its region. Fossil fuels cause climate change, which in 2022, 97% of public climate scientists believe. Fossil fuels causes less clean air, which increases the chances of people getting deadly diseases.
Soviet pollution was particularly bad, more the sake of the economy, as the Soviet Union was focused on making the communist economy look good in the Cold War.
In the 1970s, the Soviet Union under Leonid Brezhnev and Aleksey Nikolayevich Kosygin, increased the size of the Soviet Unions military. With this being, in the cold war rivalry. Polluting substances of the military were sometimes dumped into waterways, making drinking water more harmful. The military increase was funded, by discovery of new oil fields, in the Soviet and Russian region, of Siberia. As well as funding cuts, in public healthcare and economic investments.
In part due to the cuts in economic investments. The Soviet Union economy would eventually stop increasing, in the 1970s. This would lead to increased illegal sales in items, for money, after so many people lost financial hope. Some of these illegal items, being products from America and other countries, considered to be western countries. Seemingly the illegal sales would result in criminals killing each other, regrading illegal item sales, as what generally happens, with illegal industries.
In 1975, North Vietnam conquered South Vietnam and made Vietnam united and communist. Ending the Vietnam war.
By 1978, Leonid Brezhnev had a slight brain disorder, making him somewhat senile. However, the Soviet government did not tell their people this and kept him in power. Out of the fear changing the new leadership, could bring bad changes, for the Soviet Union.
In 1978, something was happening in Afghanistan, that would have a big impact on the Soviet Union.
