Part Eight:
Cuba, that was made up mostly of Hispanic, people, that’s ancestry was Spanish immigrants, in 1898 was a colony of Spain. With Spain having complete control over the region. There would be rebels in Cuba, against Spain, wanting to make Cuba an independent, nation.
Spain, as a wartime tactic against the rebels, round up some Cuban civilians in slave labour camps, which are now called contraction camps. Spain also had control over a colonial island, called Puerto Rico and the small colonial island of Guam, with a black population. As well as the Asian colony, of the Phillipines and a number of other places.

Spain also had control over a colonial island, called Puerto Rico and the small colonial island of Guam, with a black population. As well as the Asian colony, of the Phillipines and a number of other places.
So an American merchant ship that, went close to Cuba, was Shelled and destroyed. With over 100 of its passages, by a Spanish naval ship. Possibly thinking it was an army ship. However, the newspapers and so forth, in America, made it look like, they thought it was a merchant ship, in 1898.
This was the tiebreaker for America, under President William McKinley, to declared war on Spain, for influence over there colonies. America, would organise Philippine independence rebels, in the Philippines. To rebel and fight against Spain, to distract some Spanish forces, from fighting America.
In April, William McKinley, declared in the Teller Amendment that the war, which would declare the war, would not result in Cuba, being under complete American control. This would result in the Cuban rebels, siding with America.
Throughout the war, Spanish prisoners of war, were starved, by America, resulting in some dying. Generally warcrimes and or civilian harm, are covered up by newspapers and so forth, in war.
In April, American Naval forces, would blockade, Spanish controlled territory, in Cuba. There would be some naval battles, fought by America, to maintain and start, some of the blockades. One of which was a Spanish victory, which weakened the blockade.
In June, America would battle in the tiny Spanish island, of Guantánamo Bay. In which American army soldiers were sent fight Spain with over 600 American soldiers and win and capture and occupy the island.
They would use the land warfare, of the time, where soldiers would line up to shoot each other, in rows.
America, would also send Naval forces, to sent army forces, to the Spanish colony of Guam. To capture and occupy it, in June.
In July, America would invade Puerto Rico, by sending naval forces, to bomb, blockade the colony and to send army forces to land. However, battles for America, to take territory, would be more costly, then first thought.
In July, not a part of the war with Spain, America under William McKinley, sent naval forces to the kingdom of Hawaii, made up of a number of islands. Which population was made up of, lesser viewed, non-white people. Then without a battle force Hawaii, under American occupation. Hawaii would soon be made into a colonial like territory, of America. With some European immigrants coming to the territory.
In August, American forces would work with Philippine independence rebels to battle Spain and take the Philippine city of Manila and soon the whole of the Philippines. By December, a large amount of Puerto Rico, was occupied, by America.
In December, America signed the peace treaty, with Spain and the Cuban rebels. In the 1898 treaty of Paris with Spain. Which summited, Puerto Rico, Guam, to be American territories, which functioned like colonies. As well as making Cuba, a vassal nation (a nation with another one having some control over it) of America. This made America, a more powerful nation. Plus the Cuban civilians, in the camps were set free. America used their power over Cuba, to trade manufactured goods, in return for grown goods, in Cuba. America, would pay rent for Cuban government property, land, made out of the whole island, of Guantánamo Bay.
As a result, of America’s poor conditions, for Spanish prisoners of war. 40,000 Spanish prisoners of war, would die. 72,000 America soldiers, had fought and or occupy, in the war and 281 had died.
It also summited the Philippines, to America, however the rebels, were still in control of the Philippines.
This would result in America under President William McKinley, going war with the rebels, in the Filipino-American war. William McKinley thought they had the right to rule over the Philippines, because Asians were viewed as far lesser to white people, or at least some types of white people. President William McKinley, tried to justified America’s actions, in part by claiming Asians, were not even cable, of self governance. Some of the soldiers for the war, were Americans, who volunteered just for the war.

America, would blockade ports of rebel territory. Throughout the war, the Philippine civilians in the territory. Including teenage and child ones, would starve. Which was a result of the blockade.
Another horrible effect on civilians, of the blockade would knowingly or otherwise cause the death of Philippine civilians. |
America, then would sent soldiers to invade the Philippines. At one area in the north east, of the Philippines. To try and capture rebel territory. When territory was captured, often through battle, it would be occupied.
One general, of American forces, in the Filipino- American war, General Jacob H. Smith. Would order the killing, of around 2,000-20,000, Filipino men and teenage boys, in occupying territory. So they wouldn’t rebel, against the occupying forces.
However, in November, the rebels would switch to commando tactics. Which would become the warfare, throughout the rest of the war.

However the soldiers, were in non rebel territory, under Chinese government control. So China, declared war, on the foreign nations. Then the rebels, allied with, the Chinese government. The nations including America, would not Amit defeat and fight, in the boxer war. As defeat would be bad, for national pride. American forces, would go on to fight, a number of battles, against the Chinese government and rebels.
