The American Historical Works
Part Five:
Note: for those who want to know the culture, of the time period and slavery please re read the first few pages, of part one, to get a similar idea. This work will not cover literally every battle in the civil war.
In 1860, there would be a presidential election. In the end there would be 4 presidential nominees. There would be a anti-slavery nominee, Abraham Lincoln, but he did not support a national ban, on black slavery, only a slave ban in nationally controlled Western territories, which functioned like colonies, not a ban that forced the slave states, to give up slavery.
Stephen Douglas, who’s position is unknown. John C Breckinridge, who supported slavery. John Bell, who wanted to make sure America, didn’t become legally divided, between North and South.
In the end, Yankee (in the anti-slavery northern states) Abraham Lincoln, won and was elected the 16th American president, but not officially president for the current time, as he wasn’t sworn in. In this childhood, Abraham Lincoln, was in a middle-class family, with a abusive father.
In December, some Southern states, started declaring that they would no longer be a part of the United States of America, to instead be a part of, the Confederate States of America. |
The succession, was called breaking anyway the union, as in American union. Those against the succession, were called unionists. The Reasons for attempted session were:
- Wanting a southern nation, for a Southern identity, they had through Southern subculture.
- Decreasing the import taxes
- The South to have Christianity as their legal religion
- Not wanting a future where their American nation, has more power, so the states themselves, have the title of less power, in particular not wanting a national slave ban, believing it would boss the states around
- The rich and somewhat middle class, slave owners, directly profiting and benefiting, off the slaves
- Not wanting a slave ban, out of the indirect economical help. Such as slavery, helping the regular southern people. Through creating a bigger economy, that was giving to the Southern states and the South as a whole. Mainly through slavery helping the economically important, sugar, tobacco and cotton plantations in the South, as slaves were forced and guaranteed to work in such plantations
In 1860, America under Yankee President James Buchanan, was spending money on industrial projects like railroads, in areas outside the South. Many politicians in the American government, wanted a law to plan and set, to increase the 20% import taxes to 47%, at least in the short term, by 1863, to pay for it. The Southern States paid more, for import tax, since they received more imports.
In January 1861, the nationally controlled territory, of Kansas, would be become a non-slave state. After voting on being a non-slave state, instead of a slave state.
In February 1861, a Confederate army would start, to be formed. With volunteers being formed, for the military. Over 1/5th of the army, would be made, of teenage boys. As there was, no age limit.
Other reasons for joining, besides helping the confirmed reasons for session. Was the extra payment, soldiers get. As well as stopping, the idea of the free slaves, doing violence, on Southern people, as revenge.
People of the south, also had a fear of a invading army, of the United States of America, committing wartime occupation. As well as destroying and looting Confederate property, on invaded territory. Which became another reason, for people joining the Confederate army, to be regular confederate soldiers. This was also the case, for people wanting to defend their own property.
At least some, of confederate recruits, if not all. Were under the belief, a ban on slavery would be a step, for legal equality, for black people.
Seemly not looking at the session, in March of 1861, the import tax increase plan, was brought forth, by America under James Buchanan. Which seemingly would have wanted southerners to leave the Union even more. 2 days later Abraham Lincoln, was brought to office and officially became president.
Also in March, southern New Mexico broke away, from the New Mexico territory.
The city of Richmond, in the state of Virginia, would be the Confederate capital. The confederate states, had a population of just over 9 million, inlcuding 4 million slaves.
The total amount of states that seceded were:

This was the Confederate battle flag:
In April, the South Carolina militia (small military) sent cannons, to shoot at a fort of the United States of America. In the state, until they surrendered. Then the American Civil War began.
Throughout the war, trains were being built, by the United States of America and the Confederate South, to transport soldiers to locations quicker, in the civil war.
In the war resources used for the war, would decrease the amount of things for civilian use.
Soon after the war started, the United States of America, under Abraham Lincoln, ordered the American navy, to blockade the confederate states. This was meant to stop cotton exports, to Britain and France.
The United States of America, would also ban the trade between Unionist areas and the Confederate areas. However there was still some cotton illegally smuggled and sold to some Yankees. The trade ban and blockade, would ruin the civilian Southern economy. Which was meant, to scare and damaged the South into summiting defeat.
Throughout the war, some of the 5 million Southern civilians, including teenage and child ones, starved. As a result of the Unionists blockade and trade cuts. As well as the South spending resources(including food) and money, spent on the war. The 4 million slaves, including teenage and child ones, in the South, who didn't have much food before the civil war, would also lose food, due to the civil war. Resulting in some of the slaves, including teenage and child ones, starving to death. In war, the average soldier and public, are usually not shown war crimes and or civilian harm, done by their side, as much as possible.
Throughout the war, the naval mercenaries, for the Confederacy, would go against the Unionist ships, to in the blockade. Wooden ships would slowly be replaced by steel ships.
The blockade, would possibly get more southerners to join, the confederate military, out of revenge. Throughout the war, the unionist military under Lincoln, would arrest anti war involvement protesters. The Confederate printed new Confederate dollars, for payment for their soldiers. As well as issue I.O.Us to pay for much of the rest of the war.
Throughout the war, the United States of America and the Confederate South. Didn’t bother to spend much, on enemy prisoners of war. So, the prisoners starved as a result.
For over a year, black slaves would escape, from the Confederate states, to non-slave states. They would be held as prisoners, by the Unionist. Ready to be given back to the slaves after the war. Possibly to try and not to provoke, the South too much.
The war would use a mixture of musket firearms. Which were hard to active. As well as the newer lever action firearms, which required a lever, to active the trigger, to pull.
Britain would give a small amount of firearms, to the Confederate South, in the war. Possibly to divide America and so forth and or revenge for the Unionist blockade, stopping cotton exports from the South. In response the British Rival, of the Russian empire. Russia sent ships protect New York City, from the idea of confederate raids.
In the war units , that would shoot at each other, similar to the wars of late 1700s. As in a row of 100s, of soldiers.
In the war the anti-slavery Yankee(northern states), would send their militia, to fight the Southern militias and military. Along with the military, of the United States of America. The Yankee states would be:
The United States of America would get volunteers, from outside the south, for their military. Who wanted, to help keep America untied. By maintaining the American Union, or keeping America united. Many Unionist soldiers also believed that if the South seceded, other states in America would follow, until eventually there was no America.
As well as get extra payment, through American dollars, the soldiers get. At least some, fought, in part to end slavery, in America. Out of the belief victory, would one day result, in so. The volunteers would be from all of America, outside the South, not just the Yankee states. Such as the western territories and California.
People of Irish race, that fought, for the United States of America. Fought less for the America and more for encouraging less racism, by Yankees, on racially Irish people. As other Americans, believed racially Irish people, were either stupider or inferior.
It’s possible, that the people outside the Southern states, including the Unionist soldiers, were tricked into believing, the unfair import taxes. Were not unfair, or as unfair, as how they were, by newspapers and so forth.
There would be slave states, that would not send their militia, to fight for any side. While still being part of the United States of America. That would be, Delaware, Missouri, Kentucky and Maryland. Throughout the war, new national territories of the United States of America would form, from western territorial land.
Many Native American tribes, in Native American reverse territory. Which are as of 2022, located in Oklahoma. Allied themselves with confederacy. With the hope, the Confederate South, would not steal their land, through conflict, in return. There would be fighting between the unionist forces and the tribes, in the region, in the war.
There would be number of small battles, that would involve fighting, at sea, land and a mixture. There would be anti war involvement riots, in Maryland. Which would result in occupation of the state, by the United States of America, in May. In May north-western Virginia, was invaded by Unionists forces. By July, north-western Virginia, would be fully occupied.

Which would result in occupation of the state, by the United States of America, in May. In May north-western Virginia, was invaded by Unionists forces. By July, north-western Virginia, would be fully occupied.
The president of the Confederacy, would be a man called, Jefferson Davis. The Confederate armies 2 most skilled generals, which would fight in the eastern states. Would be, Thomas Jackson and one that was more higher up in the confederate army, Robert E Lee:
In July, the United States of America, sent 35,000 federal soldiers, into eastern Virginia. To attack soldiers of the southern Confederates army, of 20,000 soldiers, near the Confederate capital, Richmond. The battle would be called, the first battle of bull run and the first big battle of the war. |
Also in July, Confederate forces marched into the slave unionist slave state, of Missouri. In which they would occupy, the southwest of the state.
In the first battle, of bull run, the skilled general Thomas Jackson, stood like a stonewall on his horse, which gave him the name, stonewall Jackson. He, then his soldiers, first gave first of many of rebel yells, in the civil war, of yee-haw. Which was done to boost morale, which is the belief of victory.

In the end, the Confederate forces won and the Unionist retreated. Just under 500 unionist soldiers died and just under 400 confederate soldiers died. The Unionist forces would still, send troops to fight in Virginia, in which more battles, including big ones, would be fought.
Fearing the slave state of Missouri, would join the Confederate states. In July the United States of America, would send troops to the state. Which would start fighting its militia, in a number of small battles.
In August, the United States of America under Lincoln, would put the first income taxes in American history, to pay for the war. It would be 3% for everyone, besides the rich, which got a 5% tax.
In September, Southern forces went into Kentucky, to fight battles. With unionist forces and occupy march on invaded. In what was called, the western theatre of the war, because the planned march, was in western Southern and western Yankee states. In this theatre, the United States of America, would commit cases of, house destruction and civilian death, by cross fire.

In February 1862, the Unionist forces, moved into the Confederate state of Tennessee, in the western theatre, where battles would be fought. The forces of the United States of America, would start, occupying territory, by winning battles, some of them big ones, largely due to the skills of general Ulysses Grant. |
In January, the territory of Arizona would join, to become a part of the Confederate South, out of wanting slavery legal and a nation that could help fight native Americans, in Arizona. Confederate forces, would also invade the Unionist territory New Mexico, in February. Then fight a number of battles.
In March, the Southern state of Arkansas, would be invaded by Unionist forces in the western theatre. The confederates would retreat, from New Mexico in April. Also in April, the navy of the United States of America, sent soldiers to land and fight in a number of battles, in the Southern state of Louisiana, in the western theatre of the war.
In April 1862, in the western theatre of the war, in Tennessee, confederate forces tried to recapture Tennessee territory. So in that month the Confederate forces, made up of 40,000 soldiers, fought Unionist forces, made up of 65,000 soldiers, in the battle of Shiloh. The Unionist forces won and Confederate forces retreated. 13,000 Unionist soldiers were wounded and killed. While 10,000 confederate soldiers were wounded, or killed.
In April, the Confederate South, started conscription, to force free people in the South, to join its military. Even though, a small amount of free people of Irish race. Who were viewed as inferior, by other Southerners.
By May, the United states of America occupied some of Louisiana, including the states capital of New Orleans. In May the United States of America, passed the homestead act. Which gave some federal land in the western territories and Kansas to immigrants, to such places. This would increase German immigration, to the western territories.
Between May and August, the Unionist forces invaded Arizona. In which through battles, would force them to become apart of the united states of America again. In May all of southwest Missouri would be captured by the United States of America, off the Confederacy.
In June, battles between Confederate and Unionist forces would begin in Arkansas. In August, the Unionist slave state Kentucky would be invaded by forces of Confederate South. In which battles would be fought, between the Confederates and Unionist.
By June, 1/2 of the state Tennessee, including the states, 2 major cities would be captured and occupied, by Unionist forces. However, battles in the state would continue. In August, some of Arkansas and northern Louisiana was invaded and captured, by Unionist forces. Creating a connected narrow strip, occupied by Unionist forces. The Confederates would retreat from Kentucky, in September.
In September, an over 30,000 strong force of the confederate south would, march into Maryland. To fight an over 80,000 strong force of the United States of America, in the Battle of Antietam. In the end over the Southern forces would retreat and nearly 20,000 soldiers would be wounded and over 3,000 would be killed.
In January of 1863, the United States of America under Abraham Lincoln, would ban slavery, in the Southern States. Possibly to give more motivation, for Unionist soldiers to defeat the Confederate South. At this point it was not banned in Unionist slave states,.
Escaped slaves held by the north, would be set free. This would all result, in free black people, including escaped slaves, fighting for the United States of America, to try and free the black slaves and get extra payment as soldiers.
New escaped slaves, that traveled to union land, where set free. Captured black Unionist soldiers, had crueler conditions, in war prisons, then white Unionist soldiers, by the Confederate South.
Also in January, forces of the United States of America, under Abraham Lincoln. Would be in a conflict, with a Native American tribe, not a part of the American Civil War, in a western territory. However, if native Americans defeated the United States of America, it could make it look weak to the South. The forces would kill, at least 90 Native American civilians, including teenage and child ones. In an event called, the bear river massacre.
Between April and May, a sole force of 100,000 Unionist soldiers marched, into Virginia. Where a force of 60,000 confederate forces attacked them, in the battle of Chancellorsville. The Unionists would retreat and end in both sides, each getting 10,000 killed, or wounded as a result. Also Thomas Jackson would be killed in the battle.
In May, the United States of America, would send forces to siege the southern city of Vicksburg, in Mississippi. Throughout the siege Confederate soldiers and Vicksburg civilians would starve.
From June to July, southern forces of over 50,000 soldiers, lead by General Robert E Lee, would march into Pennsylvania. In which he would, try to attack a small Unionist force, of 3,000 soldiers. However the Unionist forces placed themselves, in a well positioned, semi circle, like position. The Confederate forces would wait and surrounded them in the same way, for what they considered the right timing.
Turned out it was a force of 100,000 soldiers of the United States of America, where coming to help the small force. So the Confederate forces, positioned themselves, in the straight downward, lined position, on the left. Then the Unionist would do a mirror position to them. So when the Confederate soldiers came to the soldiers.
The soldiers, in the downward lined confederate position, would come, would charge at the downward lined, Unionist forces. So therefore, in July, the battle of Gettysburg would begin. The Unionist forces retreated, to being moved back, in their position, while still in battle.
In March, the Southern state of Arkansas, would be invaded by Unionist forces in the western theatre. The confederates would retreat, from New Mexico in April. So the whole of the Confederate forces attacked the whole of the Unionist forces. Confederate forces, were overwhelmed and retreated to their previous position. So some of the Confederate forces, were sent to attack, some of the Unionist forces.
Were overwhelmed and retreated and moved back in their position. Then the whole of the Confederate, forces retreated, from Gettysburg. The Unionist forces would try to attack retreating soldiers, but the Confederates, would be too fast for them. In total 7,000, soldiers would die and over 30,000 would be wounded, in the battle. Afterwards Alabama Lincoln, would give a speech at the battle site, called the Gettysburg address. |
Also, after the battle in July, the United States of America under Abraham Lincoln, put draft laws. To force randomly selected people to the civil war.
The draft would not include rich people. As well as black people, who were not viewed as Americans. This however, did include people of Irish race, who were viewed as either stupider or inferior, by other Americans, including Yankees.
This draft resulted in riots, by many people, of Irish race. In New York City. A city, in the Yankee state, of New York. The rioters would target property owned by the Untied States government and of black people. As well kill Black people and both Police and soldiers trying to stop the riots. Much property destruction, had been done and the deaths, of over 100 people. 4,000 unionist soldiers were sent into the city, which stopped the rioters.
Also in July, the narrow Unionist strip of northern Louisiana, would be continued south, in Louisiana. By invasion and occupation by Unionist forces. Which created a connection between occupied Arkansas and the occupied area, in Louisiana, surrounding New Orleans. As planned, this blocked land trade between Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, with the rest of the Confederate South, to convince the south to surrender. Unionists forces, moved next to the narrow strip, by invading and occupying the capital city of the state of Mississippi, Jackson.
In June, the Unionist occupied north-western Virginia, would be made into a Unionist slave state, of West Virginia. In July West Virginia would be invaded by Confederate forces, in which battles would take place. In July Confederate forces, in Vicksburg, would surrender the city. As well as their force of over 20,000 soldiers, to be prisoners of war.
In August, as revenge for political violence, against slave supporters, in Kansas, done before the civil war. As well as possibly a tactic to help win the war. A captain in the Confederate forces, would massacre, the anti-slavery Kansas town, of Lawrence. Which would kill at least 150 civilians, including teenagers, in the Lawrence massacre:

In September, the Arkansas capital of Little Rock, was captured, by the United States of America.
Also in April of 1864, Unionist forces, would fight battles and occupy more of the South. Then there would also be, the fort pillow massacre, in the western theatre, of the war. In which over 200, surrendered black Unionist soldiers were killed, by the Confederate South, in Tennessee. This would result in a small amount, of Unionist black regiments, killing surrendered Southern soldiers, as revenge.
The United States of America, would soon capture and occupy, the Confederate capital of Richmond, in Virginia. So then in June, the over 60,000 strong force of United States of America, would work to siege city of Petersburg. In which the forces of Robert E Lee and the civilians inside would starve, as a result.
