In 1901, the nation of Australia formed, with Britain still having some control over the nation. With the governor general being the representative, of whoever was the British Queen or King and only technically the head the Australian government. Anglo-Australians still thought of themselves as mostly British. While Irish-Australians thought of themselves, as largely Irish. However, both groups thought of themselves as partly Australians. There was a sense of care and unity, in being Australians, but not pride.
The population of Australia was over 3,700,000. 14% of non-Aboriginal people in Australia were farmers, even when factoring in people too young to work. The reason only some Australians worked in farms, was largely due to farming techniques and technology that at the time had existed for less than 100 years.
Australia was at the time a nation, without its own military. So Australia would be classed as either a weak nation, or at least not a powerful one.
The prime minster at the time was Edmond Burton. The political party in national power, was the protectionist party.
In 1901, there was clearly crime in Australia. Drugs were not illegal in Australia, at this point. However, crime would have included Murder, sexual assault and other assaults. As well as theft including armed robbery. Things causing such crimes were:
1.Guns. Which cause violent crime. There was little gun regulation in Australia at this point
2.A rare amount of drug addiction. Which can lead to other issues
3.Prostitution, which was illegal at the time
4.Finanical hardships in general, which can lead to theft and prostitution
5.Distress during childhood and or bad parenting, Psychology, making be more likely to be immoral and therefore more likely to commit crime. Such harm includes:
A)Schooling bullying
B)Family violence
C)Sexual abuse
D)Simply a lack of parental love
E)Not disciplining children enough
6.Alcohol addiction, which can cause financial hardships. As well as aggression causing violence, including family violence and sexual abuse to children. Alcohol was particularly harmful among people in Aboriginal tribes, since the bodies Aboriginals still not used to Alcohol
7. People in Aboriginal tribes, not having good land, due to Britain taking their Fertile land, in their conquest of the Australian continent. This gave them a form of financial hardship. This made them more likely to be thieves. One common type of Aboriginal thief, was one stealing cows off Australian farmers
Also in 1901, Australia’s state militias were still involved in helping Britain in the 2nd Boer war, in South Africa.
Also in 1901, King Edward the 7th became the king of Britain Through both Britain having some power over Australia and through the governor general. He was sort of king of Australia.
In 1902, the Boer nations surrendered to Britain, and they became a part of the British controlled colony of South Africa. Ending the 2nd Boer war. By then 16,000 Australian militia soldiers fought in the 2nd Boer war. Over 500 soldiers had been killed.
By the end of the war, Australians knew that Britain had sent Boer civilians in camps, in poor conditions. However, they possibly didn’t know how bad. Such as the fact a large amount of them died.
In 1903, Australian females would be able to vote, in national election.
Also in 1903, the commonwealth liberal party, was elected in national power, with Alfred Deakin as the prime minster. In early 1904, the Labor party with John Christian Watson, also known as Chris Watson, was elected. In late 1904, the Free trade party with George Reid, was elected. Then in 1905, Labor with Alfred Deakin, was elected back in.
Also in 1905, the drug opium is banned in Australia.
In 1906, Britain gave its colony of Papua New Guinea, to a nation it had some control over, Australia. This made Australia more powerful or possibly just less weak. The governments of Britain and Australia, believed that it was acceptable to control tribes of Papua, because they were black.
Also in 1906, a film around a hour long, was made and released in Australia. Following the real life Australian criminal and Bushranger Ned Kelly. Showing him as a hero. It was the first film classified as a feature film.
In 1906, Gambling put under heavily regulation, by the Australia under Alfred Deakin and the labor party. This would result in illegal gambling.
In 1908, the Andrew Fisher became the prime minster. In 1909, Alfred Deakin, became prime minster again.
By the 1910s, certain white people had had sons and daughters, with certain people from Aboriginal tribes. So in 1910, Australia under the labor party started the program, now known as the stolen generation. This program took half black and half white children and teenagers, from Aboriginal tribes, off their families and tribes. They were sent to other white foster parents, or a sort of orphanage. This was done for 2 reasons. To convert them to be culturally more like Anglo and Irish Australians, including to be Christians. Out of the belief they would breed with white people, whose descendants would keep breeding with white people, until the descents would have such white skin, they would be considered purely racially white. Due to the Christian element of the program, the catholic church supported it.
Also by the 1910s, rabbits populated all parts of Australia.
In 1910, Andrew Fisher became prime minster of Australia again.
In 1910, the British colony of South Africa would become a self-governing nation under British Imperial rule, similar to British rule of Australia. This made the British Empire, that Anglo-Australians identify with, less powerful. Some of the South Africa, was made up of territory, Australian militias helped Britain conquer, in the 2nd Boer war.
Also in 1910, King George the 5th became the King of Britain.
In 1911, the northern half of the South Australia was made into the Northern terrioty. With the former political power that the state of South Australia had, then going to Australian national control. There was Barely any non-Aboriginal people in the northern terrioty.
Also in 1911, a certain man of Sri-Lankan descent, used a powerful gun to kill 6 people of Chinese descent, mainly teenage and child ones. This was called the Ching family massacre. The motive is unknow and the killer was legally executed.
In 1913, the city of Canberra was being built, with it being planned to be Australia’s capital city. In the newly formed nationally controlled Australia capital terrioty. The terrioty from the Australia capital terrioty, was taken and formed, from a small amount of the political territory, of New South Wales.
Also in 1913, the commonwealth liberal party was elected in national power, with Joseph Cook as prime minster.
By 1914, the population Australia increased to over 4,800,000. With over 300,000 Australians having jobs working in factories. Also known as working in the manufacturing industry.
However factories also cause environmental pollution. Which caused climate change. In 2022, 97% of public climate scientist claim to believe, in Factories causing climate change. Factories also caused less clean air, which increases the chances, of people getting deadly diseases. Climate change, was not known at the time and average Australians possibly didn't know about the disease elements, at that point.
